Owners Club of Great Britain
50 Years of the Metropolitan
Annual Rally 2004, 24th-25th July

2004 saw the 50th anniversary of the first production Metropolitan, and of the car going on sale in North America. The MOC celebrated this significant milestone in Metropolitan history with 2 separate rallies over the weekend of July 24-25, culminating in the largest gathering of Metropolitans ever to be seen in the UK.

On Saturday 24th July, 15 cars attended the first day's events at the world famous Brooklands Museum near Weybridge, Surrey. This was the world's first purpose-built motor-racing circuit, constructed in 1907. The restored clubhouse and the museum provided a fascinating attraction and it was great to be able to take our cars on one of the few remaining sections of the famous banked concrete track, on which so many world speed records were set.

The following day saw a truly amazing total of 46 Mets attend the traditional MOC rally site at the Plough, Tyttenhanger Green, near St.Albans. The previous largest number at a UK MOC rally was 27, so it was great to see so many cars and their owners attending for the first time. Particular credit must go to 3 members who brought their partially restored cars on trailers. We very nearly reached the hoped-for 50 figure - maybe next year! Weather was sunny and warm for most of the day, apart from one very light shower in the afternoon.
